Fry Club Colts U13 (5) v Hanham B U13 (0)
U13s Cup – Second Round
October 23, 2005
Second round of the cup
and assistant manager Wayne Skinner decided to try
a 4-5-1 line up for this match. It took just over 1
minute to pay off when the strength in mid-field got the ball through to Dan
Buley who passed the ball out
to Harry Pople who came charging through and fired
his shot, which was too fierce for the keeper to handle, into the roof of the
net.
The possession was mostly
going to Fry’s but in the 12th minute they got a warning when Hanham
hit a long range shot which shaved the top of the Fry’s crossbar.
Harry Pople had the ball
in the net for a second time after 20 minutes only for it to be disallowed for
offside. Fry’s were being caught too many times like this.
More chances came to Fry’s
who were dominating the play and Jack Baber narrowly missed with one effort but
managed to get on the score sheet when he headed in a corner just before half
time.
Half time and Wayne
Skinner decided to get some extra legs up front and resorted back to a 4-4-2
formation with Ryan Ellett coming on up front. Lewis Marcham also came on at
left back.
10 minutes into the half
and Dan Buley controlled a well weighted through ball and fired in for Fry’s
third. Almost immediately he was substituted, and John Cotgreave came on to
replace him.
The play was still going most
of Fry’s way and they had another goal disallowed when John Cotgreave tried the
infamous Maradonna ‘Hand of God’, but obviously hadn’t
been praying hard enough as it was spotted by the ref!!.
Harry Pople
continued to play some great through balls and Ryan Ellett capitalised on one
in the 55th minute when he bagged Fry’s fourth.
Hanham kept battling and
it took some great defending from Sheehan and Hooper, and some confident
keeping from Tom Rose to keep them at bay.
Myles Jefferies sealed the
result in the 65th minute with Fry’s fifth.
The boys played well and
handled the change in formation in the first half very well. 7
wins on the trot now, and through to the third round of the cup. Things
are getting better, and better.
